Court Approves Changes to Lawyer Registration Rules to Allow Address Suppression on Public Website

On November 19, 2025, the Minnesota Supreme Court issued an Order Promulgating Amendments to the Rules of the Supreme Court on Lawyer Registration to allow Minnesota lawyer to request suppression of their home address from the Minnesota Attorney Registration System (MARS) online public view if the lawyer or judge: 1) certifies that the only address at which they currently receive mail is their home address and 2) makes a written request to the Lawyer Registration Office based on safety concerns to suppress their postal address from the MARS online system.

Minnesota Supreme Court seeks two public members for the MN Board of Continuing Legal Education

The Minnesota Supreme Court seeks two public members to serve on the Minnesota State Board of Continuing Legal Education.  The three-year term began July 1, 2025, and runs through June 30, 2028.  The CLE Board meets four times a year.  Board members may attend in person in St. Paul or remotely by Zoom.  The Board oversees the continuing legal education and lawyer registration requirements for Minnesota licensed lawyers.  If interested in additional information about the Board, please contact us at clestaff@mbcle.state.mn.us.

Minnesota Supreme Court has Issued an Order Increasing Lawyer Registration Fee

The Minnesota Supreme Court has issued an Order increasing the Lawyer Registration Fee for active status lawyers by $25, effective for statements due on or after January 1, 2025.  For more information, please refer to Court Order dated October 16, 2024.  The Order also increases the paper filing fee from $10 to $20.  Lawyers may avoid the paper filing fee by submitting their lawyer registration statements online.

MN Supreme Court Adopts Board’s Petition to Amend Rules to Place Lawyers on Disability Fee Status on Voluntary Restricted CLE Status

On September 29, 2023, the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education petitioned the Court to amend the Rules of the Supreme Court on Lawyer Registration and the Rules of the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education to allow for the office to place onto voluntary restricted status lawyers who elect a fee status of disability for the purpose of ensuring that the lawyer isn’t inadvertently placed on involuntary restricted status, which would cause the lawyer to no longer be in good standing. On November 3, 2023, the Court issued an Order placing this matter out for comment for 6- days. On February 9, 2024, the Court issued an Order adopting the recommendation.

Lawyer Registration Rules Amendment

Effective July 1, 2022, the Rules of the Supreme Court on Lawyer Registration have been amended to update the data that is publicly available regarding a lawyer registered under these Rules.

Lawyer Registration Rules Amendment

Effective January 1, 2022, the Rules of the Supreme Court on Lawyer Registration have been amended to require active status lawyers to report, on an annual basis, pro bono hours and whether financial contributions have been made to persons of limited means.
